Light Clay Presented at the Technical University of Crete

On 25 February 2026, the GreeNest project took center stage at the Department of Architectural Engineering of the Technical University of Crete (TUC). Our project partner, Zeta Chrysafaki from PILIKO, was invited to deliver a lecture to students about light clay techniques and ongoing circular building projects in Crete.

The presentation provided students with a structured insight into the development and application of light clay construction within both research and practice. Zeta Chrysafaki introduced ongoing research activities to advance the light clay technique, including developing modular systems, conducting material testing, and integrating light clay bricks into innovative wall systems, such as the EcoTechWall solution. More about GreeNest solutions here.

The lecture also highlighted how these research outcomes are translated into real-world applications, presenting a series of implemented and in-progress projects across Crete. These examples demonstrated the full cycle from material experimentation to architectural implementation, offering students a comprehensive understanding of how bio-based materials can be effectively integrated into contemporary building design.
