1st Progress Meeting and Green Building Workshop at TU Berlin

On 25–26 March 2024, the GreeNest project held two key events, organised by our project partner, the Natural Building Lab (NBL), part the Institute of Architecture at TU Berlin: the 1st Progress & General Assembly Meeting of the consortium, as well as the workshop titled “Green Building Innovations and Regulations,” which was the first session in the GreeNest Training Series.

Both events marked the in-person meeting of the GreeNest project, bringing together partners and experts to explore how innovative approaches, circular construction methods, and evolving regulatory frameworks can drive the transition toward climate-resilient and resource-efficient buildings.

Transforming Building Traditions: Five Years of Balancing Acts at Natural Building Lab

This session introduces the mission and research agenda of the Natural Building Lab, led by Prof. Eike Roswag-Klinge and Sina Jansen from the Institute of Architecture at the Technical University Berlin.

The session continues with presentations by Prof. Eike Roswag-Klinge (TU Berlin) and Prof. Andrea Klinge (FHNW), exploring how current innovations, circular strategies, and regulations, such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and German Construction Law, and their implications for sustainable building practices.

Q&A Session

The second video captures an in-depth discussion session following a presentation on circular construction strategies. Topics include challenges in reusing timber for structural purposes, biological durability of reclaimed materials, emerging standards for existing buildings, and the broader reorganisation of the construction value chain to support sustainable, nature-based solutions.

More expert-led videos like these are available on the GreeNest Training page.
