GreeNest Presented at the Energy and Sustainability Conference 2025 in Crete
From July 2 to 3, 2025, GreeNest partners from Piliko and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) participated in the Energy and Sustainability Conference 2025, held in Chania, Crete. The event, co-organized by the Technical University of Crete, the University of Genoa, and the European Education and Learning Institute (EELI) a Chania Municipality - Centre of Mediterranean Architecture, brought together researchers, professionals, and policymakers from across Europe.
The GreeNest project was proudly represented by Manos Katsigiannis and his team from NTUA with the talk “The Environmental and Energetic Impact of Prefabricated Envelope Components with Bio-Based Materials for Deep Renovation.”
Zeta Chrysafaki from Piliko presented the paper titled “The Light Clay Construction in Mediterranean Context: Research, Financial Analysis, and Case Studies in Greece.” This study investigates light clay as a sustainable building material by combining lab testing with financial analysis to support practical use in Mediterranean construction. Using case studies from Crete, it compares light clay to conventional methods in cost and energy, aiming to inform future building regulations.
Additionally, our project coordinator, Prof. Maria Founti from NTUA contributed to the event with her insightful presentation “Toward Zero Emission Buildings: Challenges and Opportunities.”
The conference provided a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas and showcasing transformative approaches to sustainable construction. The GreeNest team is proud to have contributed to these discussions with forward-thinking solutions rooted in natural materials, scientific evidence, and circular design.
