GreeNest at the e-CODOMH Conference 2025
On 12 November 2025, the GreeNest project was represented at the e-CODOMH Conference 2025 in Athens, where project coordinator Prof. Maria Founti from NTUA delivered an invited lecture. Her presentation explored the evolving framework for Zero-Emission Buildings (ZeB) under the revised EPBD 2024, emphasising the shift toward life-cycle-based GWP disclosure, the need for high-performance envelopes, smart controls, on-site renewable systems, and the growing importance of reducing embodied carbon across the building lifecycle.
Drawing on the latest GreeNest results, Prof. Founti demonstrated how recycled and biogenic materials, advanced waste-wood processing, light-clay composites, SmartWall and EcoTechWall technologies, and the CASCADE renewable energy system contribute to lowering both operational and embodied emissions. She also highlighted the project’s performance verification approaches, its digital tools such as ZeBIM and ASSESS, and early findings from the ongoing multi-country demonstration campaign, positioning GreeNest as a practical pathway toward Europe’s vision for climate-neutral buildings.
The e-CODOMH Conference 2025 marks the first major gathering of the newly formed cluster, created to unite key stakeholders across the construction and manufacturing industries. Designed as a platform for knowledge exchange, the conference addresses technological, environmental, and social challenges; showcases sustainable building practices and innovation results; and supports alignment between industry practices, EU strategies, and emerging regulatory frameworks — ultimately helping shape the future of sustainable construction.
